The Provost's Committee on the Summer Reading Program has selected I Have a Dream: Writings and Speeches That Changed the World, Special 75th Anniversary Edition as the book for the 2007-2008 academic year. This book will be required in all ACAD courses and involve the freshman class, some current students and many University faculty and staff.

The anniversary of MLK's death recalls a special man, and his actions, in the struggle for equality. This collection of his writings promises to challenge the students on all fronts. How are we still working to bring the ideals of Dr. King to fruition? How is the idea of peaceful confrontation to be brought to bear on the ills that confront us today? Where are each of us called to be serving the community, or the world?

As you read this book, and consider the words of Dr. King, read it with a critical and personal viewpoint. Not only consider what Dr. King was telling the people in his day; decide how he can affect you today.
